How Do I Register A Car That I Have No Paperwork For In Ca

1.) Buy something with paper real cheap, put the VIN on your trailer and scrap the inexpensive one?

2.) I need to testify ownership on a trailer that was never registered or Titled. It is factory made and has a VIN, can I go to the manufacturer and track down the first owner, then go through the lineage?

Thanks.

In Michigan you fill out an affirmation stating that you "built" the trailer. Everyone at the DMV knows its a prevarication merely that's the way it works. Yous besides need a weight certificate.

When I lived in NY, I recall my rusty old boat trailer had more than value in the papers then the actual trailer. That'south all I got.

Thanks Play tricks, I've heard stories about the Maine registration simply never actually seen it.

I have a valid plate registered to me that is good until next April, I have a niggling time.

In Georgia if it doesn't have a VIN yous would go paperwork and a Tin can (trailer ID #) plate from the tag function, permanently mountain the TIN plate to the trailer, Get information technology "inspected" by the sheriff'due south dept of said county, then take the signed paperwork back to the tag role and pay for a tag. I've done it on both boat trailers and then far. Both were obviously not homebuilt, but since the manufacturers didn't issue a VIN, that was how it was handled.

If it HAS a factory issued VIN, I would guess y'all would take in the bill of sale showing that VIN and they'd run it through the system to make sure it wasn't stolen, and so issue you a tag. Merely I've never done that.

OTOH, if the manufactory VIN tag fell off earlier you got to the office, well, I estimate you'd just become through the homebuilt process.

TBH, I think nearly tag departments are pretty lenient virtually trailers. They know they are a shambles for recordkeeping.

In Ohio you tin get it registered as a home built by taking a weight sideslip into the DMV and they give yous a plate.

Be careful. In SC option #1 is a law-breaking with serious consequences. We also don't need tags for small-scale trailers. Nosotros can also go a title and tag past going the homemade route.

I would title it through Maine or Michigan. Not sure if Michigan has residency requirements or not, but Maine definitely does not. We've done MIchigan in the past because Grandpa had a place there.

Maine is the mode to get. I used http://world wide web.mbi-trailers.com/ and the process was stupid simple and cheap. I've been to Maine, simply never lived there.

Of form, if you should effort to sell that trailer, yous're going to run into buyers who want paperwork...

edited to add: for smaller trailers, Maine doesn't even do titles. Even easier.

I registered mine in Maine as a "homebuilt" like shooting fish in a barrel peasy

Y'all may exist able to get a indistinguishable certificate of origin through the manufacturer.

I would outset with your insurance agent. They should be familiar with the local DMV and know the all-time arroyo to annals it with minimal hassle.
